Augmented Reality Shooter
Friday, August 7, 2009 at 8:57AM Augmented reality (AR) takes a view of the world and overlays computer generated content over the top. A good example of AR would be to overlay map information on a video feed being piped into a military vehicle, so that soldiers knew their exact position while looking at a live video feed rather than having to cross-reference co-ordinates with a map.
Today, almost everyone carries a camera in their pocket, most of which are capable of recording and displaying video. So it comes as no surprise that augmented reality applications are now starting to catch the eye. A few weeks back an iPhone application was debuted that would overlay London Underground information over the live video feed from the iPhone camera, allowing people in London to easily navigate to the next station.
Here's one example of how augmented reality can be used in a gaming context, but the possibilities are endless.
